Used to
Enthuse, yet
Bemuse me
As a child,
My poets:
Dr. Seuss and
Shel Silverstein
As a teen,
My poetry:
Lyrics inside
Album jackets
Adult attempts:
Stilted verse.
Unsure.
Scared to share.
Finally,
I decided to
Be brave
Immerse—
Awashed in
Poems
Spanning centuries
And styles
Poetry viewed
With eyes anew
Lyrical
Music
Poetry written
With new poise
Fashioning
With words
Standing
Astride
Sparse and essence
Flourishing passion
I am a poet.

You came full circle and found the passion again.
Alex, I did!
You are a poet! Nice!
Betty, thank you!
I love your last stanza- such power in it! This is also inspirational to someone like me who has always danced around the fire of poetry, but never jumped in.
Shelly, I want to take another poetry workshop this summer. There’s so much more to learn.
A lovely, empowering poem. Thanks Theresa!
Thanks, Jess!
This could be my story. My husband likes to say I am obsessed. I say I am passionate.
reflectionsontheteche, there is no obsession, only passion.
Awwwww!! Love how you capture your journey to accepting you are poet here in such a lyrical beautiful way, Theresa!! p.s. I can’t see the pic though! LOL!! Take care
x
Old Kitty, thank you. I’m glad I pulled it off! I can’t see the picture either. I thought it was just me.
Caroline, thanks for having my little poem on you blog. I love your A to Z theme. Have a great weekend!
Happy to have you here! Sorry about the initial book cover image. I’m finding what is visible in preview sometimes disappears once published. Fingers crossed this image chooses to stick around.
You’ll have to fill me in on A to Z…
I can see it now, Caroline!
A poem about bravery and learning to appreciate your talents! Great job, Theresa.
Thank you, C Lee. I’m working on it.
Isn’t it funny how that happens – the older we get the less certain we become, until one day… Thanks for sharing your poetry with us, Theresa!
Deniz, I find myself willing to take more risks in many ways. At least I’m not stagnating! Thanks.
We’re so lucky you decided to be brave, Theresa. And the ending is breathtaking. Thanks, Caroline, for sharing.
Joane, thank you for the nice compliment!
This was fantsatic. My favorite poets have changed through the ages, but my love for poetry never ends. I was tentative writing poems for the first time.
Medeia, I hope to take another workshop this summer, either on reading or writing. The last time was just an intro. I have so much to learn.
Nothing more to say than: I love this : )
Thank you, Melissa! I appreciate it.
Wonderful, Theresa. My children loved Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein and I loved how their writing flowed. I love how your writing flows, too.
Victoria, thanks for the nice compliment. Anything that flows easy is pretty hard to write! Seuss and Silverstein were amazing.
I love your poetry, Theresa. And yes, I like the Lyrical Music that is poetry too.
Lynda, thank you for visting.
Lovely, Theresa! You definitely ARE a poet. 🙂
Thank you, Jennifer!
Your poetry is beautiful. I think you should add them to your books. I always love stumbling across poems right in the middle of fiction. It makes me think, “this author is brilliant!”
Michael, I have a middle grade I’m querying now, which has poetry spells. And I’m writing a YA. If I ever sell it, book 2 will have a poem in it. I’ve already written the poem for the book. I appreciated the YA, The Sky is Everywhere, because it was full of poems.
Theresa, you are a poet! I still love Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. 🙂

Thanks, Nutschell!
Yes, you are a poet! You sound empowered, and you were initially inspired by the best (Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein.) I truly enjoyed your poetic reminiscence.
Kim, thank you. It’s been nice not to be intimidated anymore, so I at least try.
Hi, Theresa and Caroline,
I have a healthy respect for people who can write Poetry. It’s sweet to be able to admit freely to what we do. It’s not something I seem to have a talent for.
JL Campbell, I don’t know how “talented” I am either, but I love reading prose and poetry, and I love to play with words.
