Here are a few writing books I’ve added to my library this last month:
Second Sight: An Editor’s Talks on Writing, Revising, and Publishing Books for Children and Young Adults — Cheryl B. Klein
Writing the Breakout Novel — Donald Maas
Writing the Life Poetic: An Invitation to Read and Write Poetry — Sage Cohen
Poetry From A to Z: A Guide for Young Writers — Paul B. Janeczko
Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and Those who Want to Write Them
What are your recent reads on writing?
Thanks for the heads-up on some great-sounding titles. Most are new to me, one I’ve heard of but haven’t gotten my hands on yet(Maas’ Writing the Breakout Novel), and one I have on my shelf (Prose’s Reading Like A Writer). Right now I’m studying Ann Whitford Paul’s Writing Picture Books. Also, I keep going back to Jane Yolen’s Take Joy, A Writer’s Guide to Loving the Craft, one of my favorites!
I liked Writing the Breakout Novel. I have Cheryl’s book and need to read it.
I haven’t been reading craft books lately. There’s been so many YA & MG books I’ve wanted to read. I’ll have to get back into it. Thanks for reminding me.
Kenda, I keep meaning to pick up Jane Yolen’s book. Thanks for the recommendation.
Natalie, I haven’t done much reading on craft lately. Felt like it was time! Of course, I won’t get to all of these straight away. I find it easier to pepper my fiction reading with a bit of non-fiction.
I’ve been reading Story, by Robert McKee. It’s about scriptwriting, but just about everything applies equally to writing books.
Lynne, I read Story a few years ago. It was great.
Save the Cat by Blake Snyder, No Plot, No problem by Chris Baty and Bird by Bird by Annie LaMott
