Have you seen it, the new cover I quietly added to my website a few weeks ago? If not, here it is in all its glory.
Isn’t it wonderful? The color palette and and energy are perfect. If you look closely, you’ll see Will has a small mole on his cheek, just like the real Will Cody.
Ride On, Will Cody! gallops into the world in early October. To that I say yee-haw!
Oh! It’s marvelous! I did a puppet play about the Pony Express in 3rd grade and have wonderful memories of the history taught to us that year by our teacher Mrs. Punnett. Looking forward to reading it!
Thank you, Jessica!
Congratulations, Caroline! He does look determined, doesn’t he? And I love a good horse. Beautiful! xo
Thank you. I’m so pleased.
What a lovely and lively cover. Congratulations!
I think so, too!
With May B, Blue Birds and Jasper and the Riddle of Riley’s Mine… you have such a gift for historical fiction for children. I can assure you, I will be getting a copy of Ride On Will Cody when it comes out this Fall. Were able to have input with Mr. Lillington’s artwork… on how you wanted to have certain scenes or characters to work? He seems to be a very talented artist!
Ooops, sorry I didn’t proof read before hitting “reply.” Were YOU able to have…
Thank you! The art is incredible, isn’t it? I was given more insight than ever before on the art process this time around (and learned so much). I got to “listen in” on art director notes and leave suggestions of my own. Perhaps I got to do this because this picture book is historical or perhaps because it’s the way this press operates, but anyhow I’m grateful!
One of my favorite pages has the lines “hoofbeats thunder / echo ’round.” I pictured Will out there on the trail alone, but the illustrator added a herd of buffalo going by. I love this addition to the hoofbeats and the nod to Will’s future self, Buffalo Bill.
