Historical Fiction, Social Studies, Teacher Links

For you social studies teachers out there, be sure to stop by a fabulous new blog, Rating Historical Fiction, that focuses on reviewing novels for use in the classroom. Here’s my review of the book, REBEL HART.

Other social studies resources:

The World History Teacher’s Blog
Effective Teaching Articles
O Say Can You See? The National Museum of American History blog

Historical Novels.info, which has “over 5000 novels listed by time and place.” Click on the YA link for dozens of recommendations that are classroom friendly.

Author Kim Norman has a wonderful personal website and a blog devoted to authors who do school visits, categorized by state.

Irene Latham has shared two other great links: The Fourth Musketeer and Teaching Authors.

Any other great teaching links you can recommend?

Historical fiction has ALWAYS been one of my favorite genres. There is a great conference in San Diego this summer – Historical Novel Society. (I will be there on a panel with Jame Richards, Janet Fox, Kristin Tubb and Joyce Moyer Hostetter!) Also, the Fourth Musketeer http://www.thefourthmusketeer.blogspot.com reviews historical novels. And http://www.teachingauthors.blogspot.com often posts good tips for teachers AND authors.

Irene, this is golden. Thank you! Off to check out these links. And I expect you and Jame to report back about your conference. 😉

Thanks so much for mentioning my blog. It wouldn’t be anything without great reviewers like you!
