Editor Emily sent me a few print outs of May B.’s jacket.

There are my words, Emily’s description of the storyline (the jacket copy), and C. S. Neal’s artwork all coming together to tell May’s story.

May B. has become so much bigger than that first draft I started in 2007 and so much better than anything I could have ever created alone.

In a week my ARCs print, and May will start to make her way into the world — the next step in making this story a little less mine. I’m so ready for May, fully formed, to speak for herself.

what an incredible time! releasing your cherished book into the world must be like sending your child off to kindergarten for the first time, only more personal.

it’s a great cover. i’m looking forward to reading what lies on the pages in between.

    Thank you, everyone!

Tom, I especially appreciate your kind words. I imagine sending May out into the world will be more like sending a child off to college: by then you trust they’re strong enough to make it on their own.

Anyone else with books out who can comment on this?

What a stunning design! You’re very lucky. And I realized if I clicked on the image it got big enough to read the flap copy! Yay! Sounds wonderful. Can’t wait to read the book.

Chris, what you’ve made is so gorgeous. And it captures May and her situation so beautifully. I’m thrilled my book was paired with you.

    And me, too!
