If you’re like me, you have dozens of books on your shelves you’ve never read. Join me in the Clear-Off-Your-Shelves Challenge and read your way through them!
The OFFICIAL challenge runs from October 1, 2009 until November 30, 2009. Instead of listing specific titles you plan on reading, you commit to a percentage. For example, if you want to read a few things from the library and something you’ve just bought during the same time period, pick a percentage (maybe 70% ?) to reflect the majority of your books will come from your own shelves. Once the challenge ends, you’ll create a list of titles read.
The UNOFFICIAL challenge (that I’m issuing!) will continue until October 1, 2010, with no percentages to worry about. Just read those things on your shelves you’ve always meant to get to and make a list. A year from now we can share.
If you’d like to participate, you can sign up officially at S. Krishna’s Books. Unofficially, let me know here. I’d love to know at anytime what you’re reading and am sure I’ll post about my titles along the way. Happy reading!
I’m aiming for 70%.
Oh, man. I can’t commit to a percentage, my to-be-read shelf is HUGE, and I have another giant batch of new books I want to read even more! I promise to read at least one book off that shelf-of-guilt in October, and another in November.
I’ve got so many things on my shelves that I’ve been meaning to read forever. I’ve got about six books on deck between library books and books I’ve borrowed but as soon as I finish those I’ll try to read one that’s languishing on the shelf. I’ve had Victor Frankl’s MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING forever so maybe that will be the first. So maybe 15% (yeah, that’s bad).
I won’t commit to percentage, but I like the idea of reading something that has been waiting too long. So I will pull a couple of those and put them on top of the towering to-be-read pile.
70% sounds good to me! It means I can ignore one or two titles.
I think the idea of an unofficial challenge to go with this is great! I’ll probably host the Clear Off Your Books Challenge twice a year, to coincide with each read-a-thon (April & Oct). Thanks for joining!
S. Krishna, thanks for stopping by! I figured I couldn’t read as much as I’d like in just a few months, and I wanted motivation to keep reading what I already own.
