Giveaway is now closed.
May B. doesn’t come out until January 10, but that doesn’t mean you can’t include it on your holiday gift list! Here are a few creative ways you can help a young reader anticipate a gift that will arrive a few weeks into the new year:
Give Book Pairs
There are all kinds of books that are great companion novels for May B. Consider giving one of these titles along with a note explaining its “partner” will arrive soon.
For another frontier story with plenty of snow:
The Long Winter — Laura Ingalls Wilder
For fans of survival stories:
Hatchet — Gary Paulsen
Island of the Blue Dolphins — Scott O’Dell
For another historical verse novel:
Out of the Dust — Karen Hesse

ooh, I loved all these books as a kid. Especially IotBD. I must have read every Scott O’Dell book out there. They were some of the first YA with female heroines I remember adoring.
Tere, in seventh-grade New Mexico history, we read Scott O’Dell’s THE KING’S FIFTH about Coronado’s search for the Seven Cities of Gold. Loved it!
Great recommendations! I shared on Facebook. 🙂
Amy, thank you!
I love these old fashioned classics. My kids don’t appreciate them (yet). Here’s hoping in the new year!
I am excited to read your new book. I just emailed your publisher to ask for a review copy. I hope I can get one!
Pragmatic Mom
Mia, thank you! And thanks again for the great verse novel suggestions. I’ve got a lot more reading to do in this wonderful genre.
I just read your Kirkus review! Congratulations, especially on the JLG selection. That is wonderful news!
