Every creator painfully experiences the chasm between his inner vision and its ultimate expression. The chasm is never completely bridged. We all have the conviction, perhaps illusory, that we have much more to say than appears on the paper.

Love that quote. It reminds me of something I read in Ann Patchett’s This is the Story of a Happy Marriage~ about how imagining your story is like seeing a beautiful butterfly in nature, but when you try to catch it and pin it down and show it in a scientific collection, it’s,…well, still very beautiful, but has lost parts of its heart and magic.
Oh, that’s perfect.
This is so true, Caroline!
And I felt this more than ever with the new book (Ruptured, coming 11/14/23). Didn’t Neil Gaiman say the only book he felt was close to his inner vision was The Graveyard Book?
