Publicize Your Book (Updated): An Insider’s Guide to Getting Your Book the Attention It Deserves

PUBLICIZE YOUR BOOK! ends with a collection of resources called A Directory of Services for Authors and Publicists. I’ll give you a taste of some of these here:

www.shelf-awareness.com/news.html: A list of links to books fairs around the country
http://www.bookweb.org/: Addresses and bookstore websites of bookstores in the American Booksellers Association
http://www.booksense.com/: A list of independent booksellers (enter zip codes to find locations nearby or those near your contacts)
http://www.publiclibraries.com/: Links to libraries throughout the country
http://www.publist.com/: “A database of 150,000 magazines, newspapers, journals, newsletters and periodicals worldwide”
http://www.dearreader.com/: “A wonderful site for readers and authors. Offers excperts from books and a variety of book promotions.”
http://www.bkgiveaway.gather.com/: “A weekly contest for a free book that helps expose yours to potential readers.”

I hope these posts have been helpful. I know I’ve been pushed to think about my work in a new way. I’d love to hear what you have to say.

I feel like I have been living/breathing marketing for the past six months — pre-release and since the book came out in January. I think one of the most useful pieces of advice I picked up along the way was this:

It is more important to be “different” than “better.”

Which is great, because it means you should infuse your marketing with creativity. Make it fun. Make it YOU.

Ooh, these are some killer links. Thanks for sharing, and for your willingness to share from your own work. I liked seeing the comparative titles for May B.
