Reason #437 Why Goodreads is So Fun: Book Conversations

Here’s a recent conversation I had with Jade Timms. I love finding friends who enjoy the same books I do and can recommend new titles.
To read this you must start at the bottom and work your way to the top. I’ve added the covers of the books we discussed.

Cool! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. And I’m really
enjoying Ender.

2504725you said to Jade: Ender’s Game
I love Ender. Wanted you to know I have two Weir library
books waiting for me!

2504725you said to Jade:
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I forgot all about
your archaeology degree. Cleopatra will be perfect for you.

Merry Christmas!
C.

3368402Jade said to you:
The thing I love about Weir is that her books–even though
they’re non-fiction–read like a novel. At least I think so. I’ve
read her Eleanor bio a half a dozen times! Love it.

I’m actually quite interested in Egypt so I’ll look into it.
One of my betas has a story written in ancient Egypt and
that’s really piqued my interest. That and the fact that I
did an Archaeology degree so old stuff excites me!!

2504725you said to Jade:
I LOVED it. Took it on a cruise and kept my nose in it
the whole time.

The only Eleanor book I’ve read was a dusty old biography.
Dragged, but I loved it because of the subject matter.

And, don’t know if this one would interest you, but
Margaret George has also written a wonderful book
about Cleopatra — THE MEMOIRS OF CLEOPATRA.

3368402Jade said to you:
Weir’s Eleanor of Aquitaine is my ABSOLUTE favourite!!
No, I haven’t read that Henry VIII title. Is it good?
Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life (Ballantine Reader's Circle) Captive Queen: A Novel of Eleanor of AquitaineComing summer 2010
Yes, I adored both of those books. Have you read them? Have you
read any of his other titles? My favourite is called Jessica.
AH-MAZING. And it’s based on a true story.
Jessica

2504725you said to Jade:
And I was just looking through your Aussie list.
Have you ever read THE POWER OF ONE and TANDIA?

2504725you said to Jade:
Okay, just requested Weir’s Katherine and Eleanor titles.
Have you read Margaret George’s THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY
OF HENRY VIII?
The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers

2504725you said to Jade:
Looking into Weir now…
Thanks!
C.

3368402Jade said to you:
Yes! I am a massive fan of the medieval British Monarchy
and the time-frame for Katherine is one of my favourite
periods! I also read the historical biographies written by
Alison Weir. She actually did one on Katherine Swynford–
it’s really interesting.

2504725you said to Jade: Katherine
Jade! I had no idea you loved this book! It’s one of my all-time
favorites, too. I’ve read some of Thomas Costain’s non-fiction
on the Plantagenets and was heartbroken to learn
John of Gaunt was a creep.

I’ve only commented on Goodreads a couple times but I can see how it develops. I just like seeing a visual of all the books I’ve read. 🙂

I haven’t used my GoodReads account much at all, but when I see how you’ve communicated about books it makes me inspired to go check it out. Plus, I’ll have to get back to you on some of these books because I’m a big fan of the Henry VIII period books myself. I’ve started reading about the time period just before that too.

It’s been fun to see what friends are reading and get recommendations from those whose tastes are similar.

oh, I’ve done this a few times as well! So fun to find places where your peeps hang. I’ll never forget my first dogsled race. A room full of people who are fascinated about the same subject as me. I revelled in conversations about training, yearlings, whip worms, nutrition, etc.
