I’ve been waiting for months for this weekend, and now suddenly, it’s almost here.
Writing is such a solitary endeavor; it’s satisfying to spend time learning from and talking with like-minded people. As much as I enjoy conferences and retreats, a part of me has always wanted more. That’s why I’m so excited about this opportunity. Darcy Pattison will lead a group of twenty through an extensive revision of our manuscripts. We’ve been paired in groups of four and are required to read our team’s manuscripts, plus review our own. We’re also to read the books The First Five Pages: A Writer’s Guide to Staying Out of the Slush Pile and Self-Editing for Fiction Writers. At the retreat, we’ll work through Darcy’s Novel Metamorphosis: Uncommon Ways to Revise.
This retreat, ideally, will blend the insight of a critique group, the direction of an instructor, and time to re-work our writing.
I’m almost done with my homework. Has anyone else participated in a revision retreat or read any of the books mentioned here?
