For many readers here, a new school year has already begun. It’s time to plan and prepare and dream about ways reading and writing can be a vital part of your classroom community. One idea to consider is an author visit.
A recent survey on author visits* revealed some amazing statistics:
- 91% of those who responded said author visits “motivate[d] students to read more”
- 74% felt visits inspired “creativity and expression”
- 68% believed visits “motivate[d] students to write more”
The impact of such visits reaches well beyond the few hours an author spends with students.
As an author, school visits — either in person or virtual — are one of my greatest joys. I offer a number of presentations for grades K-8 that focus on everything from the writing process, creating characters, and exploring poetry, to history, ecology, and geography. If you’re interested in learning more, I invite you to stop by my author visits page.
Thank you, teachers, librarians, and homeschooling families, for your commitment to your kids. Here’s to a year of reading, writing, and creativity!
