“In the distance, snowcapped mountains grow wild.” Jasper’s first glimpse of Skagway, Alaska is a reflection of what I saw there the summer of 2015.
Three and a half years ago, I started working with the idea that was to become Jasper and the Riddle of Riley’s Mine. Last Friday, I turned in my last bit of work.
My editor sent me a lovely email, something I’ll return to in the midst of the emotionally fraught period when reviews start rolling in, those handful of months between completion and a book’s release:
Such a good read! Congrats on this, really. I’m just so pleased with this story, I can’t even tell you.
Congrats!! That is exciting. I can’t wait to read it. 🙂 Is it in poetry form as well?

Thank you, Sarah. It’s not! My first prose novel.
Congratulations, Caroline! I’m in a deep revision struggle at the moment, and this is very encouraging.
You can do it! I’ve gone back over this year’s journal, and truly, I thought this book would do me in. Moment by moment.
Fantastic news – congrats!
Thank you!
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading it!
Thank you, Jessica.
Congratulations!!!! What a wonderful feeling!!!! It is enough to have done your best!!!
Thank you! And agreed.
Huzzah! Huzzah! ?
What do you do to celebrate huge, but publicly overlooked, victories like this?
Why, clean the house, of course! 😉 Glamorous, yes? There are so many things I set aside to power through those all-consuming deadlines.
On Friday afternoon, I also sat with a gorgeous book I own called THE KLONDIKE QUEST, which is essentially a collection of photos of the gold rush. It was my chance to reflect on the hard work I’ve put in and the grit and determination of those Stampeders and Sourdoughs. A special moment.
Congratulations! I can’t wait to read it. Your perseverance is inspiring!
Thank you, Margaret. Believe me, a contract helped with perseverance on this one. It was a challenge many times over, but I’m so happy and so pleased.
Yay, you! I’m thrilled for you and so eager to read the book.
Thanks! I hope you love it.
Congratulations!
Thanks so much, Jennifer.
Congrats! What a wonderful feeling that must be! I can’t wait to read it!
Big congrats, what an awesome feeling! And such lovely words from your editor to savor. xo
Can’t wait. About to pre-order, of course! 🙂
Thank you!
