The book is done.
Three and a half years ago, I started working with the idea that was to become Jasper and the Riddle of Riley’s Mine. Last Friday, I turned in my last bit of work.
My editor sent me a lovely email, something I’ll return to in the midst of the emotionally fraught period when reviews start rolling in, those handful of months between completion and a book’s release:
Such a good read! Congrats on this, really. I’m just so pleased with this story, I can’t even tell you.

What do you do to celebrate huge, but publicly overlooked, victories like this?
Why, clean the house, of course! ;) Glamorous, yes? There are so many things I set aside to power through those all-consuming deadlines.
On Friday afternoon, I also sat with a gorgeous book I own called THE KLONDIKE QUEST, which is essentially a collection of photos of the gold rush. It was my chance to reflect on the hard work I’ve put in and the grit and determination of those Stampeders and Sourdoughs. A special moment.
