I’m so pleased to say, I met you when….
before you were published, when at the novel retreat with Darcy Pattison in LouisianaI was lucky enough to be in the same group as you, read your novel draft, and knew: here’s a great writer. Congratulations! You deserve all the accolades coming your way.

Oh, Pat. Thank you. That was such a special weekend, and you know your books. I don’t take your words lightly.

Believe it or not, a part of that novel I was working on then finally was published (after 12 years of labor). I rewrote a chapter as verse, paired it with the author’s note, and submitted it to an anthology about creating stories from real life called Been There, Done That. I love that it exists in the world in some form.

It was such a joy to meet the author of Blue Birds – I LOVED your book from the moment I read it. Your behind the scenes talk was such an inspiration to a closet writer ๐Ÿ™‚

Caroline- such a wonderful and well deserved honor for you to win this Virginia Library Association Award. As an American Indian and children’s librarian- as I was very impressed with the authenticity in which the characters including the American Indian characters were portrayed, I wanted to let you know that many American Indians have read BLUE BIRDS and have thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Kimi and Alis.

I can’t think of anyone else more deserving of this prestigious honor. Congratulations once again.

PS.. Please consider including more American Indian characters in any future novels of yours. I really respect you research and skill you have in portraying American Indian characters and hope you do more such characters at some point.
