Why We Read

Hide and Seek

A library is a good place to go
when you feel unhappy,
for there, in a book,
you may find encouragement
and comfort.

A library is a good place to go
when you feel bewildered,
for there, in a book,
you may have your question
answered.

Books are company,
in sad times and happy times,
for books are people—
people who have managed to stay alive
by hiding between the covers of a book.
– E. B. White

Great poem about libraries and so true. I love libraries and bookstores almost as much as my home.

Lovely poem. I agree with the sentiment but now you’ve got me worrying because I’ve just ordered a Kindle!

I was just at our library yesterday and it was packed! Though I’d been there recently it’s always like finding out a new secret when I walk in there….. 🙂

Great poem! Libraries have always been my second home.

Kimberley, agreed. When we moved back to town, one of the first things I did was head to the Juan Tabo branch, where I spent my childhood. Everything smelled the same. Heaven!

Cool, Caroline! I usually use the Erna Ferguson branch. Seems to be centrally located when I run errands in town. Although when I first moved to ABQ and my boys were small I always went downtown to the Main branch – it took me a few months to realize that there were neighborhood branches! 😉

I haven’t been to the main branch since my Brownie days (I think we took a trip there). Must go again.
