I’ve traveled the world twice over,
Met the famous; saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I’ve been where no one’s been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.

Beautiful quote!
I want my children to memorize this one. Why don’t they make them memorize poems in school anymore??

I used to make my students memorize poems. We’d end our poetry unit with a “Coffee House.” I’d stick up a faux brick wall and curtains, hang posters the kids had made over the years, turn off the lights, invite parents, buy treats, and yes, serve coffee to eleven-year-olds.
They’d recite their poem, and we’d snap our appreciation. I would memorize a new one each year, too.
It was one of my favorite days all school year.
Oh, what a great quote on the love of reading!
My mother used to make us memorize poems. I think I’ll have mine memorize this one!
Awesome quote! I agree this should be one the schools instill in our children.
You are making me pine even worse for fiction when I have other things I need to be doing! Thanks!
Julie, I’m here to help. ๐
I love that! Just got back from Panem myself. Catching Fire was phenomenal.
Oh, this just makes me so happy. There is NOTHING better than reading a good book. Well, except maybe writing a good book!
P.S.
Your agent ROCKS. We got a form rejection from her on the first (doomed) manuscript we queried and even her form R was lovely. She should trademark that thing and sell it to other agents.
Beautiful! And so true!
I love that quote! I have a quote of the day on the board at school and I’ll add that to the list. Thanks!
Beautiful words! I am going to bookmark them. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool!
Love it!
I so appreciate those who love good books. This is a great poem. I’ve seen it before, but always love reading it again. Thank you for posting it.

Inspiring! And was interesting to read your Wed. post about NaNo. I’ve never done it, but I can imagine I’d have a similar experience!
Awesome! I like to visit blogs and read short yet powerful and meaningful poems and short stories. Thanks.

So true! Like Stephanie, I’m going to share it with my students. Thanks for the post! ๐

These words are terrific. And how true – books are windows into other worlds where we can be someone else, do something else, ask different questions, all without consequence. What a wonderful world it is! I’m happy to have found your blog! Thank you for your comment on mine.
