Wisdom from BIG MAGIC

“… Learning how to endure your disappointment and frustration is part of the job of a creative person… Frustration is not an interruption of your process; frustration is the process…You don’t just get to leap from bright moment to bright moment. How you manage yourself between those bright moments, when things aren’t going so great, is a measure of how devoted you are to your vocation, and how equipped you are for the weird demands of creative living. Holding yourself together through all the phases of creation is where the real work lies… .

So the question is not so much ‘What are you passionate about?’ the question is ‘What are you passionate enough about that you can endure the most disagreeable aspects of the work?'”

This is brilliant! And I needed it right now. About a half hour ago I was telling myself how frustrating this business is.

It’s worth reading again and again, isn’t it?

Reading this book right now . . . in bits and pieces around deadlines and house remodel. ๐Ÿ™‚ So far I love it!

I’d hoped to go, of course, but my brother arrived that day and we talked until 10:00 about house remodel details. It’s been very consuming the past month trying to get firm plans and shop for all the new fixtures and windows and items. There are holes and torn out walls all over my house now! ๐Ÿ™‚

How was the schmooze? Would love any tidbits of inspiration!

It was great! We talked goals. There were several new people. I’d love to see pictures of your house.

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I’m going to say no, though. Trying not to over commit. I hope it’s grand!
