How do you plot a novel? I suggest you first write a story: Create a character with a desire and a compulsion, and then see what she does. Force her to make choices, follow the consequences, and repeat the process until you come to a natural endpoint. Then go back and look at the structure of that story to craft the plot…Finally, remember that the overall goal of a plot is to make readers feel — to provide a structure for the action to develop, for surprises to unfold, and for readers to react.
