Thank you for sharing news of The Burning Season on Facebook, Instagram, X, on your blogs and YouTube channels. (I thought this short video was especially fun). A special thank you to my number-one fan, my mom, Polly, who posted on Facebook and sent updates about seeing her post shared elsewhere. (Hi, Mom!) The book for a moment in time was Amazon’s #1 New Release in Disaster Books for Children (which is quite the humorous category in my mind). I’ll take it!

Wildfires aren’t going anywhere. The desert Southwest has spent almost a quarter century in megadrought. California’s eight biggest fires on record have burned in the last five years. This is our reality now and for the future. And yet fire’s role in the natural world is a necessary one. I hope The Burning Season sheds light on the complex and fascinating story of fire management in the US and the important work fire lookouts continue to do in remote regions of the country.
