You are not a machine. You are more like a garden. You need different things on different days. A little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. You have fallow and fruitful seasons. It is not a design flaw. It is wiser than perpetual sameness. What does your garden need today?

If you’ve read here for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed I like quotes. This one in particular has come to mind again and again since I heard it this spring because I tend to operate like a machine. I like structure and goals and pushing hard and challenging myself. I like using my time “well,” whatever that means. But this isn’t always best or sustainable.
If you think like I do, I invite to consider, just for today, that maybe you need a little more sun or perhaps a little less water. Maybe this season isn’t so fruitful because you’re in need of rest. It is wiser than perpetual sameness. What does your garden need today?
