Fellow agency-mate Sara B. Larson ran a blog post recently about her early years — pictures included — which inspired me to do the same. Here’s a glimpse into my world from childhood to my senior year.
In Spain with family friends, the Olabarrias (I’m the one who looks like a boy)
In Saudi Arabia, showing off my preschool artwork
With my grandmother (and namesake)
With my dear friend and childhood boy-next-door, Sergio
Reading at my grandparents’ house
In middle school
Before jetting of to Australia for my year on exchange
With my Aussie classmates (I’m in the middle)
Dancing in Australia (I’m in the middle — please overlook the limp wrist and bent elbow!)
Off to prom…with the fellow I eventually married!
If you’re dying for more, here are a few others, including one from my first year teaching, where I’m dressed as an alien.
Adorable!
I love this! So pretty always! It sounds like you’ve had some amazing experiences living in different parts of the world – I’d love to learn more about that someday. And you wore gloves to prom! That’s so wonderfully fancy.
The dress, jacket, and gloves were my mom wore at her wedding! I still think it’s a gorgeous dress.
Lovely. What a great smile you always had!
I LOVE it!! And you are so dang cute! I’m so glad you did this. 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration, Sara!
You should paint more seals. 🙂 And how sweet that you married your prom date! Just over from another blog that quoted Hans Christian Andersen “to travel is to live.” Indeed! SO CUTE, you. xo
I have to admit, I’m still kinda proud of that seal!
While Dan and I were at dinner during prom, a couple told us they had been to prom together 20 years before…and had gotten married. It was a fun thing to think about years later.

I love these photos! What a lovely window into your childhood! I too want to hear more about your childhood world travels!
My dad’s Corps of Engineers job took us to Saudi Arabia when I was three. From there we were able to travel all over the place. Wonderful, wonderful memories from those years!
It was so fun to see such sweet photos of you growing up! Loved your prom photo. What a good looking couple you two make!
Thanks, Mia. I think we’re pretty cute, myself.
