In September I…

…had a book signing at Bookworks with local authors Laurel Goodluck and Khadijah VanBrakle.
…finished editing a novel for Waxwing Books and critiqued two picture books.

…(finally) had lights installed in my dining room.

…closed out the book journal where I’ve listed all the books I’ve read (sadly excluding picture books) since 2004 (2004 titles — which seems fitting!) and started a new one. (I plan to try to keep record of the picture books this time around.)
…settled in on a new picture book project I am very excited about.
…attended local author (and SCBWI-NM‘s regional advisor) Susan Metallo’s book launch for Reasons to Hate Me.

…celebrated The Burning Season at Books on the Bosque. (Notice the opal ring I’m wearing. It’s what inspired Opal’s ring in the book. Also, why am I the only grown up playing the funny face game [apart from Rebekah who made her funny face one picture too early]?)

… did my semi-annual flat roof sweeping and debris collecting. Man, it was messy up there.

…got the pottery I made with my sister last month in Atlanta. It is so so beautiful!
…took an afternoon walk at one of my favorite (morning) running spots (so differently beautiful at a later time of day. I’m sure you’ll see more pictures from this walk at a later date.)
…voted during Fat Bear Week. (If you’re not familiar with this, it’s a hoot! Incredible how bears can so quickly accumulate fat to ensure their winter survival.)
…continued eating all the tomato sandwiches, and brought in the last (?) of the tomatoes to ripen in a bag.

…celebrated my dad’s ninetieth birthday! (a bonus picture from October 1)
